Abstract
Introduction: In recent, fall-related injuries of older people are common, leading mortality and disability. We investigated this survey to determine the incidence of falls during last one year in community-living elders, and to examine the intrinsic risk factors associated with their falling.

Method: To evaluate the intrinsic risk factors for their falls, we interviewed and tested 688 community-dwelling persons aged 60 years or older. The data are acquired from (1) Some questionnaires including WHO-QOL, ADL, IADL, MMSE-K for cognition impairment, Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly, and fall history, (2) Basic anthropometric measurements, such as BMI, WHR, and body composition, and (3) visual acuity, orthostatic hypertension, and bone mineral density, (4) And physical fitness and performance tests such as balances, neuromuscular coordination.

Result: There were differences in risk factors according to the number of falls-and-slips. Comparing non-fallers with the fallers experienced more than one time, the intrinsic risk factors associated with their falls were the following: fat percentage (p=0.015), muscle endurance (p=0.004), chair stand (p=0.010), walking and rotating performances (p=0.000), static balance (p=0.006), ADL (p=0.003), IADL (p=0.004), and physical confidence (0.004).

Conclusion: We found some variables including fat percentage, muscle endurance, static balance, chair stand, walking and rotating performances as the intrinsic risk factors for slips-and-falls. And the questionnaires about physical activities, ADL and IADL are available for detect the potential fallers. Additionally, these results suggest the goals of intervention program for prevention of falls and osteoporotic fractures should be included improvement in body composition, muscular endurance, neuromuscular coordination, and psychosocial conditions.
